(Español) EB desde Auckland y Rotorua – Nueva Zelanda

Auckland: Peace and Non-Violence heritage walk Friends, I send a big hug from New Zealand where we haven’t stopped since we arrived.  This added to connection problems and various minor accidents (loss of a computer, forgotten documents, border issues, broken down bus, etc) have made this day and a half feel like a week.

Yesterdya there were many activities in Auckland, including a march around the city.  We inaugurated a symbolic walk that the local pacifist groups have been asking for for a while.  There was the presence of Maori representatives and all organisations involved in the issue of peace: Greenpeace, Amnesty, UN Association, NPD and others.  For the evening we journeyed to Rotorua, a place of great significance in NZ related to the struggle for Peace and disarmament.  One detail: as we went for 7 km around the city during the march with 300 people, we didn’t see a single policeman.  In the evening we were in a Maori centre where various members of the Base Team participated in a ceremonical and cultural event.  The day ended with a visit to the geysers where a river flows into hot water pools.

Today, we had the first meeting of the Base Team.  A very good climate, and a coming together despite the great diversity.  We have been joined for a short while with a couple of nonagenarians.  We also have the singer Graeme Allwright travelling with us and entertaining us with his songs.  Today he sang a very nice and emotional song, a new pacifist version of the Marseillese, with words especially written for the WM.

As I write, I’m in a mini bus that we are taking from Rotorua to Wellington, while it’s raining cats and dogs…  We’re in 2 buses.

We’ve already had the first mention in the Press, on the front page of one of NZ’s main newspapers.

A strong hug,
